Ultrasonic homogenizers use the cavitation phenomenon of ultrasonic waves to emulsify, separate, cleave, homogenize, extract, defoam, clear, vegetation, disperse and accelerate chemical reactions of nanomaterials. Ultrasonic cleaners also use cavitation to clean objects. Therefore, it can not only complete the work of homogenizer, but also widely used in various industries, laboratories, universities and colleges.
The purpose of using an ultrasonic homogenizer is to reduce the amount of small particles in the liquid to improve the uniformity and stability of the liquid. These particles (dispersed phase) may be solid or liquid, reducing the average diameter of the particles, increasing the number of individual particles, resulting in a decrease in the distance between the particles and an increase in surface area. The surface area of the particles and the average particle spacing can affect the rheology of the liquid. If the specific gravity of the particles in the liquid is different, the uniformity of the mixture will affect the stability of the dispersion. If most of the particles are similar in size, the tendency to agglomerate during settling or ascending will be reduced because similar particles have similar rates of ascending or settling.
Advantages of ultrasonic homogenizer:
Ultrasonic homogenization is an effective method for reducing soft and hard particles, and homogenization is based on cavitation. When the liquid is exposed to strong ultrasonic vibrations, the sound waves propagate in the liquid, resulting in alternating high and low pressure cycles (about 20,000 times per second). During the low pressure cycle, as the liquid vapor pressure increases, high intensity small vacuum bubbles are created in the liquid. When the bubble reaches a certain size, it will collapse sharply during the high pressure cycle. In this implosion process, local high pressure produces a high velocity liquid jet. The generated current and turbulence disturb the agglomeration of the particles and lead to a violent collision between the particles.
One of the main advantages of ultrasonic homogenizing equipment is that the liquid contact portion is relatively small, which effectively reduces frictional wear and cleaning time. There are only two parts that contact the liquid: the ultrasonic vibrating head and the can body. Both are simple geometric figures, with no hidden holes. Parameters in which the amplitude and pressure of the ultrasonic wave have an effect on the cavitation effect. The Ultrasonic homogenizing equipment has an amplitude of about 1 to 200 microns and can withstand liquid pressures ranging from 0 to 500 psig. Due to the wide range of adjustment of the two parameters, very good cavitation effects can be achieved.
By controlling the amplitude of the ultrasonic homogenizer head, the amplitude of the ultrasonic equipment used for production at different scales is constant, which allows the ultrasound to be controlled and repeated. Consistent and repeatable results are produced under the same operating parameters. This is important for the quality of the materials produced and the expansion of the process from the laboratory to the production level.
